I enjoy realizing I don't have to look up to view the beautiful fall colors. You reminded me that they are also close to the ground! Thanks, Shell.

So many lovely flowers and lovely photos!

I would be interested to hear how you get on with the Shungiku. I grew it a few years ago (in the UK) and wasn't too keen on it as an edible - but the flowers were lovely and worth growing for them alone.

Thanks, Angie. I’d really like to try growing it again. It reminds me so much of our time living in China. Chrysanthemums are such a big part of the culture there. People drank them in tea, grew them, ate the greens, and included them in traditional art motifs.

And I’m reading that while shungiku is Japanese in name, this plant is enjoyed throughout southeast Asia. I’m really excited to try it again, and hopefully to find some neat variations to grow. Thanks for reaching out. I’ll keep you posted! 😊

Thanks for the "long read" and the beautiful photographs! I have to try out some of your plants for next year. I am in Pittsburgh (zone 6b) and never thought to grow the roselle. But sounds like the yarrow is a better bet!

Alice, thanks so much! I wish we zone 6ers could more easily do the roselle! And you’ll love the yarrow if you grow it. The delicate feathered leaves and beautiful colors are just stunning. And I love that it’s a perennial. I’m glad to be connected with you. Please keep me posted on your garden!
